We are a self-sufficient agency that, at no cost to taxpayers, developed ways to provide structured training in order to help inmate participants obtain gainful employment upon release. We have many success stories under our belt and we are proud to share one of them below. Meet Julian Ellis Julian Ellis is a former Maryland Correctional Enterprises (MCE) inmate participant that is currently working as an A/R Tech Supervisor at MCE. VIDEO: Watch Julian’s Interview Julian was incarcerated for 20 years and at the time of his release, he was 38 years old. This means that he spent more time behind bars than as a free man. Following his release, he was able to build his professional career, start his own family, and maintain a positive outlook for the future. It begs the question of how he was able to achieve it all and leave behind the world he was introduced to during his teenage years. The answer to that question lies in the mentorship he received while attending MCE’s Continuing Allocation of Reentry Services (C.A.R.E.S.) program. Reflect on your life for a moment and think of all the people that made a difference in your life. From your friends, family members, teachers, coaches, professors, to your bosses and professional leaders - your mind can quickly become filled with pictures and memories of those that helped steer you in the right direction. How would your life look like without their assistance and knowledge? Would you still be able to become who you are today? Undeniably, it would be much harder for you to succeed in today's complex world without their mentorship. During his incarceration, Julian was able to attend MCE’s C.A.R.E.S. program. That’s where he connected with mentors that offered to support his personal and professional enrichment. These people not only helped to shape Julian’s present situation, but instilled his new forward thinking mindset and habit of continuous learning. Julian believes and eagerly advocates for everyone to pursue their passions and work on becoming a better version of themselves.
